Polly Jean Harvey is an English singer, songwriter and musician. Primarily known as a singer and guitarist, she is also proficient in a wide variety of musical instruments. Harvey began her career in 1988 when she joined local band Automatic Dlamini as a singer, guitarist and saxophonist. The leader of the group, John Parish, became his permanent collaborator. In 1991, she formed a trio of the same name called PJ Harvey, then began her career as PJ Harvey. The trio released two studio albums titled Dry and Rid of Me before the breakup, after which Harvey continued to work as a solo artist. Since 1995, she has released nine other studio albums in collaboration with various musicians including Parish, former band member Rob Ellis, Mick Harvey and Eric Drew Feldman, and has also worked extensively with record producer Flood.
